A DIFFERENT SORT OF CASE
I-264, Virginia Beach Boulevard and Northampton Boulevard carry heavy freight through this city at all hours, and the Port of Virginia sends more of it this way besides. When one of those vehicles strikes a car, the injuries are seldom minor and the case is seldom straightforward.
What changes is who sits on the other side. A truck claim can bring in the driver, the motor carrier, whoever owns the trailer, the broker who arranged the load, and a maintenance contractor — each with its own counsel, its own insurer, and a reason to direct attention elsewhere. Federal regulation sits on top of Virginia law as well: hours-of-service limits, inspection and maintenance standards, and electronic logging.
